A few days after finding the first tooth, Mark found another tooth breaking through the gums right next to it. They’re his bottom two middle teeth and I can’t even begin to describe how adorable he is when he’s babbling away, chewing on a toy or sometimes even crying because of those two little white buds just barely peaking out through his gums.
He’s still not sitting up yet unsupported, but we’ve decided regardless we’ll go ahead and start solid foods at six months, which is April 1. He’s meeting all the other developmental milestones suggested when starting solids. We’re going to try starting with avocado. We’re not doing rice cereal or pureed baby food, so we’ll see how it goes. We both really like the idea of baby led weaning.
We will be sure to take videos of Elias’ first experience with food. I think it will probably be hilarious.
Update: While examining his mouth tonight, we found yet another tooth just barely breaking through up in the top left portion of his mouth. My son is a hard core teether.
On Thursday or Friday, Mark noticed something hard, sharp and white poking just a tiny bit out of Elias’ gums. His first tooth! It seems to be coming in rapidly as it already seems so much bigger than it did at the start of the weekend.
Elias was incredibly cranky this weekend. He’s still hanging onto a cold, however he’s had a cold for almost three months now, so I think his crankiness is due to the teething and not his health.
I can’t believe my baby is getting a tooth!
Elias completely conked out last night. He woke up around 7:30 wanting to be fed and changed, then slept until about midnight when I decided to go to sleep. I think I had to go back there once to sooth him back to sleep. He didn’t wake up again until nearly 6:30! I feel blessed to have a boy who loves his sleep. I try to avoid writing too much about it because I fear I’ll jinx myself. He’s never given me a problem sleeping overnight in his whole life though and I can only hope that doesn’t suddenly change.
I put Elias in the exersaucer this morning and put a rolled up blanket in front of him to keep him upright. We’re going to need to figure out what the height setting should be at. At the lowest setting, Elias can completely reach his feet to the base and turn himself, however crudely. At the next to lowest setting, his legs are just dangling above the base, though if he fully extends them, I think he can barely reach. Neither situation seems to describe what the instructions suggest, which are letting his toes touch the base. I can’t find anything online about proper infant placement in an exersaucer either. Sometimes being a parent is frustrating!
Elias still isn’t to the point of laughing at things or situations, so I can’t say he was particularly amused by the exersaucer. He did seem very intrigued. He liked the spinning turtle the best along with the turtle that’s attached to the activity book. I am sure his interest in these toys had more to do with the ease in which he was able to operate them and direct them to his mouth.
He chatted away during his time in the toy and did this thing I’ve never seen before where he looked all around while silently opening and closing his mouth.
I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this!
We ordered this exersaucer last week. It was delivered today and we had Elias test drive it when he came home from daycare. He was very interested in all the cool toys and tried to bring several of them to his mouth, regardless of whether or not the toy would reach. After a few minutes, he was starting to get upset, so we took him out and moved onto a different activity. It wasn’t long before that activity aggravated him as well. He wasn’t giving me his usual tired signs (rubbing his eyes and scratching his head) so I was going to try a diaper change next. I set him down on the bed so I could put his pocket diaper together and before I finished stuffing it, he was drifting off to sleep. After another minute, he was fully asleep.
I think he’s probably going to wake up before too terribly long since he hasn’t eaten since 4pm and could probably have used a diaper change when he fell asleep. It’s been very easy to put him to sleep lately, but this was just ridiculous.

Elias is really starting to notice the animals. He smiles at Leah and Teyla all the time. Our friend’s boxer, Crash, was over yesterday and Elias thought he was the funniest thing ever. He’s starting to laugh, though his laughs sound dorky. (”Huh. Huh. Huh. Huh. Huh!”)
Sorry I haven’t been very good about posting lately; time is slipping by quickly.
