Standing, Babbling and Photos

Posted by: Lynda In: 13 months| Milestones| Photos| Playing

There are several new photos on Flickr starting here.

Last Christmas, Mark and I got this little fabric play yard thing for Elias which he never really cared for. Several months after that, we got a big bag of balls to fill it, but we only got the balls out once. Mark decided he wanted to get the whole shebang out again and now my living room looks like a Chuck E. Cheese blew up inside of it.

Elias got a kick out of playing with the balls, but little holds his interest nowadays except exploring the areas and things we tell him are off limits.

Last week, Elias started standing unsupported for several seconds at a time. Throughout the week, he mastered this skill and can usually stand unsupported until he feels the need to move somewhere. He’s getting more daring at trying to take a step, but it usually ends with him on his hands and knees and crawling away. Yesterday he took one full step before falling on his hands and knees.

This weekend, he fully mastered standing up on his own (without needing to pull up on a wall or object.) A couple times yesterday, he also crawled off a few times with his arms and legs extended instead of the usual crawling position. I can’t help but think walking is right around the corner.

He’s babbling in baby sentences now. He uses a few baby words pretty regularly (”slur”, “huh”, “nana”) but I cannot at all tell what he means. On Saturday, he said, “Teh” several times when trying to get Teyla’s attention. (He also discovered the joy of feeding her Cheerios.) The only word he consistently uses correctly that I can figure out is, “uh-oh”. There have been several times when we’ve had to do a double-take when he says something because it sounds like he’s saying something specific. Yesterday he was in his pack and play and I was in bed and Mark said it sounded like he distinctly said, “Get. Up.” twice. Since he rarely repeats these words or sentences, I don’t really feel it’s right to count them.

Here are a couple more pictures. We’re hoping to get a smaller camera sometime soon to make it easier to whip out and take photos. Elias and I will be in Maryland next week. I’m really apprehensive about that and don’t feel good at all for separating him from Mark for so long, so we’ll see how that goes.

Another New Toy

Posted by: Lynda In: 09 months| Photos| Playing| Products

We recently bought this LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table. It was fairly inexpensive and so cool! There’s lots of different activities on it, a few different settings and you can configure the table legs a number of different ways to play. Elias likes standing up at it and he also likes it with the two front table legs removed so he can pull himself up on it. Cool toy!

Lots of photos

Lots of new pictures posted on Flickr today.

Some highlights:

Poor baby was tired and still a bit out of sorts from our trip to Texas. This is one of the most hilarious pictures ever taken of him (Mark took it). I’m going to show this one to his girlfriends to embarrass him, for sure. By the way, look at all those teeth. He has four now on bottom and four on top.

He stands quite well now if he has something to hold on to. He still isn’t quite to pulling himself up on anything though.

He loves Leah so much. She’s very patient with him. I don’t think our efforts to get Elias to pet gently are paying off yet though.

Dallas World Aquarium

Posted by: Lynda In: 09 months| Out on the Town| Photos

While in Texas, Mark and I took Elias to the Dallas World Aquarium. We’ve been there once before together and I just love the place. Most of it is a 3 story rainforest you walk your way around. Elias seemed to enjoy himself and liked looking all over the place. There were a few tanks that were eye level with his stroller, so he got a cool view. I highly recommend going there if you’re ever in Dallas. Very relaxing.

Back from Texas

Posted by: Lynda In: 09 months| Out on the Town| Photos

We just got back from Texas last week. We were there visiting Mark’s family from July 2 - 8. Traveling always seems to make time pass by so quickly.

I think overall, Elias really enjoyed the trip. The trip out there (from the time we left our house until we got to Cleburne) took about 6 hours total and Elias was perfect through the whole thing. He did get cranky when we were at Mark’s parents’ house or at the hotel. I am not sure if this was because his normal daycare/nap routine was disrupted, if he was still feeling a little sick from his illness before the trip or something else. His eczema and dry skin really flared up while in Texas and no amount of Aquaphor or lotion could remedy the problem, which I’m sure did not improve his mood any.

I feel bad for Mark’s family because they didn’t get to spend a lot of time with my calm, relaxed, happy baby, but rather the cranky baby who took his place. He wasn’t non-stop tears or anything, but he wasn’t completely himself.

Here are some photos from our trip. There are still more photos to come, but I wanted to provide a quick update. He’s on the verge of several milestones and I think the next couple of months will be the most exciting yet.

Here’s Elias in his stroller at the rental car plaza at DFW. I can’t believe how calm he was during this whole entire process:

The 4th of July was very fun and probably Elias’ least cranky day overall. After napping almost the entire day, we went to Mark’s brother’s house because the Cleburne fireworks could be seen in his front lawn. There were several other groups of people there and several younger children. All of them seemed to hover around Elias and enjoy interacting with him. When we went out front to sit on the lawn, one of Kathy’s friends, Sherri, took Elias into her lap and he sat there calmly until he eventually drifted off:

Mark’s mom bought a little inflatable pool for Elias to splash around in. Oddly, he wasn’t too interested in splashing in it, but he did enjoy picking up the little plastic balls that were thrown in. He was a Mr. Crankypants and before long, got sick of being in the pool.
