Gecko Diaper - Day 4/365Going through our ottoman, I found a medium sized pocket diaper I forgot I bought! We could have broken this baby out a month ago! I also found a medium sized cover that I have little use for at the moment because I rarely use prefolds or fitteds and the Thirsties small size covers still fit him well.

I finally snagged a one size GoodMama fitted diaper! These things are currently like beanie babies to cloth diaperers and don’t stay in stock very long. I was very surprised that my order went through without any problems. People praise these diapers to high heaven saying they are workhorses and perfect for overnight use. Currently I’m using a BumGenius 2.0 one size double stuffed overnight without any problems, so we’ll see how the GoodMama does. I’m really excited about receiving it because I’ve never had any pretty fitteds!

I have a LOT of our old cloth diaper stuff to try to unload, but I’m so bad about mailing things that I’m trying to make sure I have all the shipping items ready to go before I make a post about it. I’m going to get rid of our Kissaluv size 0s, contours and many covers. The wife of one of Mark’s oldest friends is pregnant and we talked to them about cloth diapering when we were in Texas. They seemed to be on the fence about it, so Mark and I were considering giving them the Kissaluv diapers and some covers so they can try it out.

I’ve had a blast cloth diapering, it’s much easier than I anticipated and it just seems cleaner than disposable. But enough of my cloth diapering blabber!

Mark started taking showers with Elias because I am not very good at giving baby baths. (I’m not good at dressing baby either - I apparently never practiced on baby dolls.) Both of them really enjoy their shower time and I think this is an excellent way to handle bath time.

Baby Bee KitThe other day I got a little sample pack of Burt’s Bees Baby Bee products and I fell in love with them so quickly that I ran right out and bought full sizes of the Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion, Dusting Powder, Apricot Oil and Shampoo/Wash. Elias has never smelled so good! The dusting powder smells wonderful and leaves his skin so dry and soft, it’s just so much nicer than baby powder. Elias seems to be reacting well to the products also; his skin has never looked so good!

Milestones: Elias has his first cold this week. We’re not sure if it’s due to daycare or our trip to Texas or maybe a combination of both. He seems to be coping with it well. The first night was rough as he had too many problems breathing sleeping on his back. The next night I got out his cosleeper wedge so he’d be slightly inclined overnight and that seemed to help greatly. His nose is a little snotty and he has a cough, but overall he’s in good spirits unless a booger’s actively trying to come out.

Sleepy BoyElias has been attempting to reach for his toys and really enjoys feeling different textures. He fell asleep in his swing this morning while playing with his starfish cloth that has tons of different textures and crinkles. He pulled it up to put in his mouth, but then apparently was overwhelmed with exhaustion and fell asleep. He’s really enjoying his touch and feel books, such as Good Puppy. Mark told me Elias actually grabbed on to one of his feet the other day after looking at it! His vision has improved greatly and he now smiles at us from half way across the room. Every day it’s something new. This is going to be a really fun month.

Doggy Outfit 1I’ve mentioned it before, but Elias is fitting into his 3-6 month clothes now. It’s exciting because these clothes are so much cuter than his newborn clothes, which was mostly onesies. I hate to admit that there are a lot of newborn clothes that we never even opened or he never even wore. He just grew out of them too quickly! We found out a couple of weeks ago that Mark’s best friend in Texas is expecting a child, so we’ll have lots of second-hand things to pass along to them that are brand new, including a slew of hooded towels. Why we thought we’d need about two dozen hooded towels is beyond me. Four is more than enough!

Mark is working super late tonight. He’s covering for the night shift supervisor which means he may be able to leave as early as 8pm, but he could also be there as late as 2am. He got to go into work late, at 11am this morning, so that will help him stay fresh for this evening, I hope.

Since I’m not really going to see Mark this evening, I decided to take Elias to see my mom at work today. It’s about an hour drive and I was apprehensive about it because the last few times in the car, Elias hasn’t handled it very well. He slept all the way there though. When we got there, he was attentive to all the new things around him (my mom gave him a tour of her office and warehouse) and he gave my mom lots of smiles. He didn’t ‘talk’ to her, but she’s coming over Friday afternoon to watch him while we attend Mark’s holiday office party, so hopefully he’ll want to have a conversation or two with her then. I love listening to him talk because he sounds so serious about what he’s telling you.

Doggy Outfit 4Elias slept the entire drive back, too and is still asleep in his carseat. It’s been nearly 5 hours now since he last ate, but I don’t want to wake him. He didn’t get his morning nap and I think he’s been feeling a little under the weather lately (more coughs than usual) so I want to let him sleep as long as he’d like. If that means he’s up until 2am in the morning, so be it.

I bought 5 more one-size Bum Genius 2.0 diapers earlier this week and I expect they should be in the mail today or tomorrow. I absolutely love these diapers and think I’m going to try to move to use them exclusively. Hopefully we’ll be able to find a day care provider who will cloth diaper - these will probably be the easiest thing for them if they do agree since they’re so similar to disposable diapers in ease except that they’re SO much better at not leaking or blowing out.

Elias is starting to make wake-up grunts, so I better go attend to him. I have a feeling when he does wake up he is going to be extremely hungry to the point where I won’t be able to feed him fast enough!

I got the medium Peanut Shell and it does fit better, but I just don’t like the way it holds him, so I’m sending them both back. I’ve decided to go ahead and order a Moby wrap since they seem pretty easy, secure and cheap. Until that gets here, I finally figured out the Snugli, but mostly I’m just carrying him everywhere. Great exercise.

I’m also going to order a few more Bumgenius 2.0 cloth diapers since they’re on clearance and I’m really liking the ones we got last week.

Elias is smiling a lot more and may have even giggled a couple times. He smiles more every day. The next few weeks should start getting really fun.

I can’t stop buying diapers.

From the Cotton Babies sale, I got 3 BumGenius 2.0 One-Size pocket diapers for $15/piece (one in butternut, grasshopper and twilight). I’ll definitely STOP buying the diapers now. We should have more than enough until he hits 16lbs at least, at which point I can sell what he’s outgrown and get some more!
